Takeda demonstrated a novel and open pitch process that recognised the true value provided by the participating agencies. They took a thoroughly disruptive approach, getting insights from their internal team on what was most important to them and then designing a low burden process that ensured they could pick the right agency partners based on their core needs—a genuine trusting partnership based on values. Judges liked the fact that, as well an innovative approach to creds presentation that only asked for chemistry and capability sessions, Takeda then offered fully a paid-for pilot project for the two final agencies in the process.
This was a completely innovative approach to the pitching process that focused on cooperation between the client and agencies involved with the aim to establish whether they could work well together as a team. The effectiveness of the method was borne out by the selection of two small/new agencies from outside the Takeda preferred supplier list that would likely have not been able to participate in a more traditional pitch procedure.
Ultimately, this was a process that challenged the traditional procurement model but paid dividends through a collaborative approach to partnerships… the judges deemed it truly groundbreaking.
