Course Description

The goal of this course is to improve your presentation skills. You will learn how to deliver impactful presentations in any setting, including pitches, meetings, presentations, and training sessions. Additionally, you will acquire skills that can be applied to online, virtual events, and recordings of talks and webinars.

What will we cover?

There’s space to customise the workshop a little depending on what participants ask for on the day, but the basic starting point is that the first session will be dedicated to structure and design for your presentation and slides, while the second session will focus more on improving delivery.

For participants who want to, the latter parts of the second session will be given over to trying out parts of a presentation and getting structured evidence-based feedback. We recommend that if you want to try out your new skills like this you set aside time between the two sessions to create the material you want to use: simply using an old presentation is counterproductive.

Session 1 – Creating an Effective Presentation

  • Understanding what presentations can and can’t do and when to do so
  • Different ways to open your presentation
  • Structuring your presentation for optimum interest from your audience
  • The five big principles of slide design for maximising what your audience remembers
  • Tactics for ending your presentation
  • How to handle questions
  • Tools for explaining your point very quickly

Session 2 – Delivering your Presentation

  • Handling nerves and appearing authoritative
  • Differences between face to face and online presentations
  • Using your voice and body language for credibility and impact
  • Looking at good and bad presentations to see what we can learn
  • When to use stories in your presentations
  • Practical session for participants who want to get involved

Who is the course for?

How is it delivered?

2x 3 hour training session delivered online, for a group of up to ten participants. This session will contain a mix of presentations, group work, case studies and individual exercises. In the final session, participants will have the opportunity to deliver a short presentation to the group to practice their skills.

The style of delivery is semi-formal, with some time for questions and reflection, using a dedicated studio, but as there’s a lot of material to cover, the course will be focused on passing on information for you to work on later.

There will also be some exercises to try out between sessions.

At the end of this course you should have:
