About the PM Society

ADVANCING STANDARDS TOGETHER

The PM Society is the professional home for those working in pharmaceutical marketing or healthcare communications.

The PM Society has three clear objectives:

  • Supporting and developing individuals throughout their professional careers

  • Recognising excellence and promoting best practice in pharmaceutical marketing and communications

  • Providing a forum for debate, identifying the key challenges that affect our members and setting the standards that shape the industry

The PM Society was established over 50 years ago to serve the needs of the pharmaceutical industry and its service agencies. It currently has over 230 companies as members, including pharma, biotech, life sciences companies on the industry side and PR, Creative, Medical Communications, Technology and many other kinds of service company on the agency side.

It is organised and directed by the Board and Leadership Teams steering the direction of the Society and working hard to forge close working relationships with other industry groups, for the benefit of its membership

The Board determines the strategy for the Society, ensuring effective management of all PM Society activities across three key pillars:

1. Supporting professional careers

This pillar encompasses all those workstreams and offerings designed to support individuals from their entry into the industry through to continuing professional development and personal growth. Activities include:

2. Celebrating the best of pharmaceutical marketing & communications

This pillar centres around our comprehensive awards programme. The PM Society holds two awards competitions per year, culminating in award ceremonies that are highlights of the industry calendar:

  • The PM Awards​ – held annually in March, in London, now in its 41st year, with an audience of around 900. The focus in on creativity, craft and the people and teams behind the work

  • The PMi Awards​ – held annually in September, in London, now in its 17th year. (formerly the PM Society Digital Awards). This attracts an audience of over 500. The focus in on Impact and Innovation as well recognising people and teams.

3. Shaping the industry – addressing key questions & setting standards

As the professional home for our members, the third pillar of our work is to scan the horizon for the challenges and questions facing our members companies, provide a forum for debate and develop guidance and relevant content to help shape the industry. Key activities include:

  • Pharmony Summit (annual)​ – where the key topics of the year are debated by an audience of pharma and service company leaders.

  • PM Talks Live Webinars, White papers and guidance for members

  • PM Society Pulse Survey​ – providing members with answers to the key questions of the year, including benchmarking data.

Our Interest Groups

The Society has seven active Interest Groups aligned to the current challenges and issues facing those involved with pharma marketing and communications; Careers, Digital, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Industry-Agency Relationships, Marketing Excellence, Patient Engagement, and Sustainability.

These interest groups meet regularly and generate content, run educational events and provide a forum for discussion and action appropriate to their respective topics.
