SUMMARY:Virtual Training: People Management for New Managers
DESCRIPTION:Introduction\nCompetent leadership and managerial skills are more desirable now than ever to ensure team engagement during these uncertain times. \nThe manager’s behaviour and actions can be pivotal to the productivity of the team. Unfortunately\, new managers can sometimes be thrown into managing others without knowing where to start or given adequate training and coaching to succeed. \nIt is common for newly promoted managers to feel overwhelmed and experience ‘imposture syndrome’\, the feeling of not being worthy of the position. Because of this\, some managers can have a tendency to return to the comfort zone of carrying out their previous role tasks rather than embrace the new responsibility.\nWith this in mind\, this short course covers the essential skills needed to manage others and invites the participant to create a plan for how they will perform in the role. \nWho will benefit from this programme?\n\nThe programme is designed for anyone working in a healthcare communication agency (in account management or a medical writing role) who is taking the next step in their career to a role where they will be managing others\n It is also suitable for managers who are looking to refresh their skills in people management and haven’t received any formal training in this area before\nIt would also be beneficial for anyone looking to be promoted and would like to understand what managing other people would entail.\n\nWhat is the programme and why is it different?\nThis highly interactive course focusses on the underlying principles of managing others in three concise sessions (2 hours each session) over three consecutive days.\nThere will be a short pre-programme questionnaire comprising five questions to complete and provide a few days in advance of the first session commencing.\nParticipants will come away with their own unique outputs from each exercise and some key models and frameworks to help enhance their management of others. \nWhat does the training include?\nPre-programme exercise: Participants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire of 5 questions prior to joining the first session \nSession 1 – 5th August 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Building trust Learning outcomes: \n\nTo understand the importance of how our actions\, behaviours and words can affect team performance.\nTo increase confidence when conducting one on one meetings with direct reports.\nTo understand why poor leadership can lead to poor performance\n\nOutput: Guiding principles for your role as a new manager. \nSession 2 – 6th August 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Develop management style Learning outcomes: \n\nTo understand how different leadership styles impact team effectiveness.\nTo identify the management style best suited for team members to be most effective.\n\nOutput: Management style adaptation guide to be able to get the most out of your team \nSession 3 – 7th August 10:00 am – 12:00 pm – Develop the team Learning outcomes: \n\nTo be able to identify the difference between allocating verse delegating tasks and delegate more effectively\nTo be able to prepare feedback and use simple coaching techniques\nTo understand how to avoid common pitfalls of managing others.\n\nOutput: Delegating and coaching skills guide to aid the development and growth of the team. \n  \nMatthew Plant Trainer & Coach\nMatthew Plant has 20 years’ experience developing learning solutions for multinational organisations. SUMMARY:Virtual Training: Managing Pressure and Building Resilience
DESCRIPTION:About the course\nThese two sessions\, which will be delivered via Zoom on consecutive days\, are rooted in the science of how the body and brain react to pressure and stress and offer a practical and non-fluffy guide to maintaining and building your resilience.  It’s a relevant subject for most people in business today but the need for support in this area has increased given how COVID-19 and working from home is affecting people’s focus and resilience. \nThe contents of each session are as follows:- \nSession 1 (2 hours)\nThursday 30th July 10:00 am – 12:00 pm \n\nHow the body and brain respond to pressure and the effect of the stress reaction. How the brain’s survival mechanism produces ‘lower order’ emotional reactions that can be unhelpful in the workplace. The balance between good v unhelpful stress.\nReframing your thinking. Understanding the ‘thinking traps’ we sometimes fall into and how you can step back\, strip out the emotion and re-assess and handle pressurised challenges. A group exercise where delegates analyse a previous situation.\n\nSession 2 (1 hour 30 mins)\nFriday 31st July 10:00 am – 11:30 am \n\nThe science behind\, and benefits of mindfulness and breathing techniques\, including scientific evidence of how they impact the brain and the stress reaction.  A review of the apps and other tools available.\nKeeping your focus and limiting distraction. Why technology makes us butterfly between tasks and keeps us in a state of ‘continuous partial attention’.  Practical ideas on how you can change the way you work to stay focused and be more productive.\nExercise\, relaxation\, sleep and diet. How other aspects of your lifestyle impact the way the body responds to pressure and can help build resilience.\n\nAbout the trainer\nPaul Phillips spent many (stress-filled) years working in agencies including Ogilvy\, FCB San Francisco and most recently 14 years at VCCP.  During his last 8 years at VCCP\, he founded and ran the specialist healthcare agency VCCP Health\, where he first got interested in mental health.
