Target/Craft 1: Primary Care Advertisement

Single print or digital advertisements for GPs/Practice Nurses

  1. GPs and practice nurses nationwide
  2. creative peers
Eligibility: individual print or digital advertisements for pharmaceutical products or services targeted at GPs and/or practice nurses in the UK and/or overseas. For digital ads, only the content prior to any click-through will be considered. The Target award will include only ads designed for UK use (with or without additional overseas use). Ads aimed exclusively at overseas doctors will be judged for the craft award only, must be provided in English language and be known to have appeared in their target market(s).

Both print and digital versions of an advertisement can be entered but will count as two entries, for which two fees must be paid.

Entry cost: £150 + VAT (£180)

  • 2 copies required. Maximum format, double page spread (preferably A4) with downloaded label attached to reverse of one copy. For exhibition use, one copy should be mounted on thin card / board with small margins.
  • Hi-res JPEG uploaded

  • Static images - upload in any standard format (JPEG, PNG etc)
  • Animated - upload animated GIFs, or other standard format

Target/Craft 2: Secondary Care Advertisement

Single print or digital advertisements for Hospital Doctors/Nurses

  1. a representative mix of hospital specialists and nurses
  2. creative peers

Eligibility: individual print or digital advertisements for pharmaceutical products or services targeted at hospital specialists and/or nurses in the UK and/or overseas. For digital ads, only the content prior to any click-through will be considered. The Target award will include only ads designed for UK use (with or without additional overseas use). Ads aimed exclusively at overseas doctors will be judged for the craft award only, must be provided in English language and be known to have appeared in their target market(s).

Both print and digital versions of an advertisement can be entered but will count as two entries, for which two fees must be paid.

Series of three or more print or digital advertisements for any healthcare professional

  1. a representative mix of primary and secondary care doctors and nurses nationwide
  2. creative peers

Eligibility: a series of 3 or more different advertisements for the same pharmaceutical product or service aimed at any healthcare professional which can be in print, digital or a combination of media. NB. The same advertisement executed in both print and digital forms will not count as 2 of the 3 minimum number of advertisements required. One of the advertisements may have appeared up to 3 months prior to 1 October 2017.

Ad campaigns aimed exclusively at overseas doctors will be judged for the craft award only, they must be provided in English language and be known to have appeared in their target market(s).

Entry cost: £150 + VAT (£180)

If at least 2 advertisements from this series have been entered individually into categories 1 or 2, this category is FREE to enter. 

Print only campaign:

  • 1 set of collated run-outs with downloaded label attached. For exhibition use, may also be supplied as a printed montage, mounted on thin card, maximum width 80 cm.
  • Hi-res JPEGs of individual advertisements uploaded

Digital only campaign

Depending on the type of ad:

  • Static images - upload in any normal format (JPEG, GIF, PNG etc)
  • Animated - upload animated GIFs, or other standard format

Mixed print and digital campaign

  • Each item supplied in accordance with specifications above

Target 4: House Promotion

Single items or campaigns promoting services to the pharmaceutical industry

Judged by: a special panel of pharmaceutical industry marketers

Eligibility: Single items or campaigns promoting services to the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry. Can include press, print or digital material or any combination thereof.

NB This category is not for materials aimed at healthcare professionals

Target 5: Corporate Communications

Pharma company communications in any medium that can be internal (own staff) or external (to the industry or general public)

Eligibility: Pharma company communications to the industry and/or general public. Can include press, print or digital material or any combination thereof.

Target New 6: Innovation Award

A new award to acknowledge true innovation in communications to healthcare professionals

Judged by: a special panel of pharmaceutical industry marketers

Eligibility:   Communications to HCPs in any medium.

NB In addition to paid entries to this category, entries from other categories might also be put forward (at no charge) by the craft judges if considered particularly innovative.

  • Websites can be entered by either just supplying its URL or video capture the entry demonstrating the key features of the website. (URLs must be ‘live’ from submission until at least mid-December 2018)

Craft 7: Sales Aid

Print or digital branded sales aids for use with any healthcare professional

Judged by: creative peers online and in panel session

Eligibility: printed or digital sales aids designed for use with any healthcare professional. Entries must be promotional/branded i.e., not medical education, and will be judged on creativity. Sales aids aimed exclusively at overseas doctors must be provided in English language and be known to have appeared in their target market(s). Digital entries to this category cannot also be entered into Category 8 (Interactive Communications).

The same sales aid can be entered in both print and digital forms but will count as two entries for which two fees must be paid.

  • Entries must include a video file, ideally no longer than 3 minutes in duration. The video must clearly demonstrate the functions of the sales aid illustrating its best features and how the target audience engages with it. Please video capture the sales aid being demonstrated (either by video or screen capture software like Camtasia or Captivate)

The judges are ONLY looking at creative execution. No performance related data will be used in the judging process.

Craft 8: Interactive Communications

Communication tools requiring interaction with any healthcare professional

Eligibility: Single items targeted at Healthcare professionals (only), executed in print or electronic media such as direct mail, websites, apps. Entries require engagement and interaction with their audience.  eDetailing aids must be entered into Category 7.  Material designed for overseas markets only must be supplied in English language version.

Digital Interactive communications

  • Entries must include a video file, ideally no longer than 3 minutes in duration. The video must clearly demonstrate the functions of the entry illustrating its best features and how the target audience engages with it. Please capture the entry being demonstrated (either by video or screen capture software like Camtasia or Captivate)
  • Websites can be entered by either just supplying its URL or video capture the entry demonstrating the key features of the website. (URLs must be ‘live’ from submission until at least mid-December 2018)

Craft New 9: Mixed Media Campaign

Mixed media campaigns targeted at any Healthcare Professional

Judged by: creative peers in panel session

Eligibility: an integrated mixed media campaign targeted at one or more of the following: GPs, practice nurses, hospital doctors and or nurses which can include press ads, mailings, sales aids, leave pieces etc in print or digital forms.

The majority of components within this category must be aimed at the HCPs themselves. Up to one third of the campaign components can have appeared as early as 1 July 2017. Campaigns designed for overseas markets only must be supplied in English language version.

The same item entered in both print and digital forms will count as only 1 of the 3 minimum items required to qualify.

Craft 10: Disease Awareness (Patients)

Single items or campaigns designed to raise public awareness of specific diseases

Eligibility: single items in any medium or campaigns aimed at the public to raise disease awareness. Can include material for disease specific charities and clinical trial recruitment. Material must be compliant with appropriate national code and be funded by the Pharma industry (excluding charities). Social issues which can result in disease remain outside the scope of this award. Material designed for overseas markets only must be supplied in English language version.

Craft 11: Disease Awareness (HCPs)

Single items or campaigns designed to assist HCPs in identifying specific diseases

Eligibility: single items in any medium or campaigns aimed at HCPs to assist disease awareness, identification  and diagnosis.. Material must be compliant with appropriate national code and be funded by the Pharma industry. Social issues which can result in disease remain outside the scope of this award. Material designed for overseas markets only must be supplied in English language version.

Craft 13: Events and Exhibitions

Creative material in one or more media developed for use at events attended by HCPs

Eligibility: Creative material / experiences / displays etc designed for use at special events such as product launches, conferences etc held in the UK or overseas. Can be in one or more media forms. Material designed for overseas markets only must be supplied in English language version

It is up to the agency to present the entry in a manner that will be clear to the judges, highlighting its creativity. The judges are ONLY looking at creative execution. No performance related data will be used in the judging process.

Craft 14: Film & Animation (HCPs)

Live action or animated films targeted at any healthcare professional

Eligibility: single non-interactive live action, animated or mixed style films targeted at healthcare professionals (only). Material designed for overseas markets only must be supplied in English language version (voice-over or sub-titles).

However where your film or animation is longer than 3 minutes you should supply an edited video file in addition to the full film file, ideally no longer than 3 minutes in duration which will be used during first round judging. The video will allow the judges a flavour of the entire programme / view of all elements, where the original programme is long. 

Craft 15: Film & Animation (Patients)

Live action or animated films targeted at patients.

Craft 16: Best Use of Insight

How fresh insight leads to original creative expression.

This category seeks to reward the best use of insight in driving creative excellence. Successful entries are likely to be those that are able to clearly show how a fresh and incisive audience insight was used to create a distinctive single minded proposition and so inspire original creativity.

Eligibility: Single elements or campaigns for pharmaceutical products or services or disease awareness targeted at HCPs or patients in the UK and/or overseas

  • A statement of the brief (100 words max)

  • How the insight became a single-minded proposition  (100 words max)
  • How this insight translated into the creative expression (100 words max)
