The PM Society Market Access Interest Group Meeting met on the 7 September at the ABPI offices in Victoria, London, led by Craig Bradley from Shire. In attendance were Hassan Chaudhury from Health IQ, Tony Cox from Wilmington, Kyle Haddon from HBI, Ram Patel from Brainsell, Ed Senior from MGP and Hasseena Winter from the ABPI.
1. Market Access needs analysis survey
A survey is planned to create awareness of the MA interest group and feed into a short-term educational output such as a “market access 101” and longer-term event plans. The group was joined by Ram Patel who has previously developed surveys for the PM Society.
It was decided that there should be minimal free text questions in this mainly quantitative survey and that comments boxes should be included for motivated individuals. A more detailed, qualitative survey could be sent at a later date to inform the agenda of a meeting.
The survey will be anonymous, with no details shared of respondents, and early sight of the report will be an incentive to complete the survey. The survey will be promoted through social media (Linkedin, Twitter) and industry-based PM Society advocates, realistically aiming for 200-300 responses
It was agreed that a flyer for the group (pdf, hard copy) would be useful to generate awareness – with calls to action including registering for inaugural networking event, membership of group, or completing the survey. It will be distributed through social media and PM Society advocates.
The group considered the draft questions produced by Kevin Blakemore and those circulated with previous minutes, with the following possible content being broadly agreed.

What is the one thing your company could do to improve its market access approach?
What is the most challenging aspect of market access?
Section 4 - PM Society
For our inaugural event, what would be a good topic/speaker/which NHS changes do you want to hear about that relate to MA?
What should the MA interest group event focus on: networking, education, celebrating excellence?
What is the one thing that this group could provide to improve your development in MA?
2. Updating the Market Access section of the PM Society website and future content development
The group agreed that the website content needs updating. CB agreed to draft new text and insert a “vision” for the group. It was suggested that the group contribute short articles on MA issues, publishing one every 2 months.
3. Case studies
HW stated that ABPI want to publish case studies that demonstrate good market access.
It was also discussed that the PM Society Digital Awards has a Market Access category. HC stated that the criteria for submitted digital projects were based on demonstrating mutual benefit for industry and patients. Could AHSNs be contacted to provide case studies as their aim is to improve regional health through partnership working?
Next steps for the group
The survey questions will be agreed on-line and the survey launched.
There is a planned end of year social to launch interim questionnaire results and input into event plans, date tbc
The next formal meeting will be in early 2017. Date tbc.
The group will work on planning of a Market Access networking event in February 2017.
